Colombia River Gorge – Portland

Colombia River Gorge - PortlandPonytail Falls

Portland is a great little city, with tons of personality and a great beer town. While there is tons of information about Portland online, I am going to skip out on all the great things about Portland, such as the restaurant, brewery block and some trendy area’s to go out. Only 30 minutes from Portland but seems a World away is the Colombia River Gorge. The Colombia River separates Oregon and Washington. It is one of the largest rivers in the United States and has many huge waterfalls from the gorge feeding into the river that are totally worth the trip.

Vista House

From Portland, take 84/30 Eastbound. Exit at NE Corbitt Hill Road, and turn left on the historic Colombia River Highway. Your first stop will be the Vista House, an overlook of the Colombia River. Continue down the road to Latourell Falls, a very nice waterfall that has a trail (to the right of the parking lot) that leads you right below the falls.

Latourell Falls

After Latourell Falls, continue on to Bridal Veil Falls. This is a nice short hike with a great 2-tiered waterfall in this state park.

Bridal Veil Falls

You can have a quick stop at Wahkeena Falls, before getting to the famous Multnomah Falls. This tiered waterfall with a bridgeway really stands out as one of America’s unique waterfalls.

Multnomah Falls

Following Multnomah, continue on to your last stop at the Horsetail Falls trailhead. You can go on a quick hike for about 10 minutes to see both Horsetail and Ponytail Falls. Extend this short hike to a 6-mile hike through the Oneonta Gorge for a spectacular hike.
