The Waihe’e Ridge Trail is an excellent hike in North Maui that is not long but incredibly rewarding,. The views of the Waihe’e Valley and down the Maui coastline are amazing. It is a perfect 2-3 hour hike and one of our favorites on Maui.
How to Get There
Waihe’e Ridge Trail should come up in Google Maps. The trailhead is just north of Waihe’e town off Kahekili Highway (340), 3 streets past River Road, and a left at the bend where Mendes Ranch is located. Parking is available the end of the road on the right.
The hike starts by walking to where the road is blocked around the side of a fence. There is a short climb up the hill that leads into the forest. The beginning section of the forest can get very muddy if it rains.
Following the section through the trees there are a few glimpses of the Maui coastline and the first views into the valley. The views continue to get more impressive the further the trail continues.
The trail follows the ridgeline and has amazing views of the coast. TIP: Check the cloud level before hiking. The best part of this hike are the views which may be obscured by clouds.
When we got to the summit the views were hidden behind the clouds. Luckily, they started to dissipate when we were about to descend the ridge.
Enjoy the hike down. TIP: Make sure to bring sunscreen, as you are exposed on more than half of this hike.
