The Waihe’e Ridge Trail is an excellent 2.5-mile hike located in North Maui with an elevation of 1,563 feet. Even though the Waihe’e Ridge Trail trail is not long, its difficulty is moderate as it is steep, but the views are incredibly rewarding.
The Waihe’e Valley has views of the Maui coastline and it takes around 2-3 hours to hike. It is one of our favorites in Maui.

How to Get to the Waihe’e Ridge Trail
The trailhead is just north of Waihe’e town off Kahekili Highway 340. There is a small road directly across from the Mendes Ranch. Parking is available at the end of the road on the right and a sign on the fence marks the trailhead.
The Waihe’e Ridge Hike
The hike starts by walking to where the road is blocked around the side of a fence. There is a short climb up the hill that leads into the forest. The beginning section of the forest can get very muddy if it rains.
Following the section through the trees, there are a few glimpses of the Maui coastline and the first views of the valley. The views continue to get more impressive the further the trail continues.
The trail follows the ridgeline and has amazing views of the coast. TIP: Check the cloud level before hiking. The best part of this hike is the views which may be obscured by clouds.
When we got to the summit the views were hidden behind the clouds. Luckily, they started to dissipate when we were about to descend the ridge.
Enjoy the hike down. TIP: Make sure to bring sunscreen, as you are exposed to the sun on more than half of this hike.
